Part 1: Literacy Assessment Tools
Using the topic Resources and your own research, investigate different literacy screeners and diagnostic assessment tools. Complete Part 1 of the “Analyzing Assessments and Data” template. Write a 250-500 word summary of your investigation and include the following information:
- The difference between literacy screeners and diagnostic assessments. Provide an example of each type of assessment.
- Describe when each type of assessment is used, the data each type of assessment provides, and how the data from both work together to make remediation and intervention decisions.
- Describe one tool used to screen for dyslexia. Explain what information this screener can yield, and how it affects classroom intervention instruction.
- Explain how you can collaborate with other professionals (e.g., special education teachers, literacy specialists, service providers,) to use screeners and diagnostic assessments to assess and support the diagnosis of potential literacy issues, including dyslexia.

Use the “2nd Grade Literacy Scores” to complete Part 2 of the “Analyzing Assessments and Data” template by identifying students needing Tier 2 and Tier 3 instruction, instructional goals, and interventions to support student needs.
