Context

As you continue to explore and refine your understanding of your professional identity as an

educator, this assessment task will focus on creating a folio that encapsulates your growth, insights

and aspirations within the educational landscape. This folio will serve as a tangible representation of

your experiences, allowing you to document not only your achievements but also the challenges you

have faced and how they have shaped your teaching philosophy (Dunne & Logue, 2021).Creating a folio is more than just an assessment task; it is an opportunity for you to reflect deeply on

your teaching practice and articulate your evolving professional identity. As you gather and curate

your materials, you will engage in a process of self-exploration, which is vital for understanding how

your values, beliefs and experiences inform your approach to education. This reflective practice will

empower you to identify areas for further development, adapt your methods to meet the diverse

needs of learners and establish a solid foundation for your future teaching career.

In essence, your folio will not only highlight your past and present but also guide your journey

towards becoming a more inclusive, effective educator in a dynamic and interconnected world

What is a Folio?

A folio is a curated collection of documents and artifacts that showcases your skills, experiences and

professional development as an educator. It serves as a reflective tool to illustrate your emerging

professional identity, highlighting how your journey shapes your teaching practices.

Components of a Folio:

• Personal Statement: Introduce yourself and articulate your teaching philosophy and goals,

aligned with your emerging professional identity.

• Experiences and Evidence: Include examples of teaching experiences, such as lesson

overviews or resources that demonstrate your growth, skills and impact on student learning.

• Reflections: Write about your experiences and evidence, discussing what you learned and

how it influences your teaching methods.

• Ongoing Learning: Highlight any courses, workshops or training that contribute to your

growth.Professional Teaching Identity

Your folio should encompass various aspects of your professional teaching identity, including your

values, beliefs and cultural influences. Consider including elements such as your commitment to

inclusivity, equity and diversity in the classroom, as well as how your personal experiences shape

your interactions with students. By reflecting on these dimensions, you can create a comprehensive

picture of who you are as an educator and the unique contributions you bring to the field.

Instructions

Step 1: Create Your Portfolio

You will need to create a digital resource of items that demonstrate your emerging professional

identity linked to the learning theories and pedagogies discussed throughout this course. You have

been developing and adding to your dedicated OneNote Notebook throughout the course with your

weekly Learning Activities, and this tool can be used to form part of this assessment task.Additionally, you can use any other program or online resource, including:

• Microsoft Sway (access as part of your Torrens Student account)

• Microsoft PowerPoint

• Canva

• Website/blog builder sites, such as Wix, Squarespace, etc.

• Any other resource that allows you to upload, store and update your folio as needed.

For this assessment task, you will provide your evidence of the beginning of your portfolio. The aim

is for you to continue to add to it throughout your degree and career. A minimum of five (5)

resources is recommended.

In 2,000 words, demonstrate, with evidence, items, documents, resources and other information

that accurately depict your deepening knowledge and reflection on your professional identity as an

educator. You will link to learning theories and pedagogies, including Zones of Proximal

development (ZPD), scaffolding, Bloom’s taxonomy, constructive alignment, etc., discussed

throughout the course, as well as relevant literature.

Step 2: Share Your Experiences

Before the submission date of this assessment task, and as part of your Community of Practice (CoP),

you are to share a link to your folio in the relevant Discussion Forum for your colleagues and fellow

students to access it to review and provide feedback on. You should also reply to at least one of your

colleague’s links to their folio to provide commentary and constructive feedback for ongoing

learning and growth.
