This project is designed to help future educators develop cultural sensitivity and enhance their
ability to communicate with students and families from diverse backgrounds. The project
consists of three parts:
Part 1: Autobiography
Write a 3-page autobiography highlighting key life events related to the following areas:
• Education
• Family
• Religious traditions
• Recreation
• Victories and defeats
Focus on how your personal experiences have shaped your beliefs, attitudes, and understanding
of normal and abnormal behavior in American society, especially within the context of
education.
Part 2: Biography
Write a 3-page biography of an individual from a culture different from your own. Choose
someone outside your circle of friends and family. Conduct unstructured interviews to gather
information on:

• Family
• Religious traditions
• Recreation
• Victories and defeats

Begin the biography by explicitly stating how this individual’s culture differs from your own.

Part 3: Cross-Cultural Analysis

autobiography and the biography. Reflect on how these differences are shaped by educational
experiences and societal factors. Discuss your perceptions of race, class, gender, and related
social issues.
