Type your response below:

Quote 2:

At least a 1 paragraph analysis of what it means, why it is important, and how it can be applied or understood.

Part 3 Essay Question (20 points):

Choose one of the essay questions below and answer it with at least one well-developed paragraph. Make sure to reference material from the class by referring to readings, lectures, videos, and/or key concepts to help illustrate your discussion. Any time you refer to a reading, lecture, or video, make it clear when you’re quoting by using quotation marks around quoted material, include page numbers if the source has page numbers on it, and make it clear which source you’re referring to, including author (if there is one) and chapter (if there is one, like with the two textbooks by hooks or Kang, et al).

Option 1: Imagine you are an alien from another planet, observing human behavior through one social media platform. What would you, the alien, infer about human men and women based on what you see? Choose one social media platform that you use frequently, like TikTok or Instagram, and scroll for a while. Take notes about what you see, and draw conclusions about the messages about masculinity and femininity conveyed.(Note: Don’t pick this option if you don’t regularly use social media.) In your response, use at least one key term/concept and refer to at least one assigned reading, lecture, or video.

Option 2: You had probably heard of feminism before you started this class. Consider how your perception of feminism has changed with what you’ve learned so far. Imagine you are explaining to a friend what you learned about feminism and how it compares to what you knew about feminism before starting this class. Provide that explanation here. In your response, use at least one key term/concept and refer to at least two assigned readings, lectures, or videos.

Option 3: Describe your own intersectional identity–using whichever categories you think are most relevant to your identity. (For example, I am a white, heterosexual, cisgender, able-bodied, middle class woman. Other categories might include religion, ethnicity, immigration status, languages spoken, etc–choose the categories you think are most relevant to your identity, but please make sure to include gender identity since that is our focus here.) Referring to at least one of the readings on intersectionality, discuss how your various identities intersect with your gender identity. In other words, how is your experience of your gender shaped by your other identities? Make sure to refer to at least one of the following from the intersectionality lecture : Chapter 10 from hooks , Lorde’s “ There is no Hierarchy of Oppressions,” The Combahee River Collective Statement,” or the video “Kimberle Crenshaw at TED.”

Copy and paste the question you’ve chosen to answer in the box below:

Write your response to the question in the box below:

Part 4 Real-world Connections (20 points):

Share an image, meme, video, song, or other example that you feel demonstrates a connection between what we have learned so far and its significance in real life. Note it does not need to be intentionally about gender. Many of the best answers here are things you have seen that reminded you of class. You can share the image itself or a link to YouTube, TikTok, Instagram etc. (Check to be sure it works and is public). In one or two well-developed paragraphs use the tools you’ve practiced from this class so far to analyze the item through the lens of Women’s and Gender Studies and/or feminism. Which concepts, readings, or authors does this connect to and how? Refer to at least three key terms and/or readings, lectures, or videos from Weeks 1 through 3 of the class.

Share your image, meme, video, song, or other example in the box below:

In the box below, write one to two well-developed paragraphs explaining why you think this source is relevant to Women’s and Gender Studies and how it impacts both our studies and gender/women’s issues in real life. Which concepts, readings, or authors does this connect to and how?
